Elijah's Challenge
Now is the time for Christians to be totally committed to the Lord without hesitation and reservation (Romans 12:1-2). We are to be living sacrifices set on fire with the fire of the Holy Spirit from heaven! The origin of Elijah's Challenge comes from the challenge of Elijah to the nation of Israel in 1 Kings 18. Our culture has much in common with his day! Elijah challenged the people to serve the LORD whole heartedly. The people of Israel were guilty of worshipping the LORD as well as worshipping the Baal. They blended the two belief systems together! It is called "SYNCRETISM". Basically, it is the process of putting divergent ideas together to make a whole. Just like the Hebrews of Elijah's day, Many Christians are guilty of mixing a little Bible with a lot of what cultures believes. The process leads to practical atheism. People who profess a belief in Jesus Christ, but do not process their choices based on a commitment to Him. The result is sinful living. The walk does not equal the talk!! |
Elijah called for a demonstration of fire on the altars of Baal and the Altar to the LORD! The fire would authenticate who was the living God. When the fire fell on the LORD's altar, it affirmed to the people the uniqueness of the Living LORD and their sinful rebellion. Elijah called the people of God to repentance! You should read the whole chapter of 1 Kings 18! I believe the LORD desires the altars of our hearts to be set on fire by the Holy Spirit so that people can see the difference that the Living Lord Jesus Christ does make in the hearts of the saved!
Is the fire produced by the Holy Spirit burning in you today? I want to challenge you with this word!
Don't grieve the Holy Spirit (1 Thessalonians' 5:16). Let the fire fall on the altar of your heart and prove to the world the difference Jesus makes in us. We are clay pots that hold the treasure of the Gospel (2 Corinthians 4:8). When we choose to honor the LORD, the Holy Spirit will fire our hearts (Romans 12:11). My personal challenge is to be set on fire for the LORD and to honor Him in my actions and attitudes. This is a challenge the Spirit has put on my heart to give to Christians as I preach, write, and testify! LET THE FIRE FALL! When the fire falls on our hearts, the revival will start in the Church!
